Taking in the issue of women safety to its notice after the horrific rape and murder incident of a veterinary doctor in Hyderabad the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) has allowed women to carry pepper spray.

The BMRCL was facing stiff opposition both online and offline for its decision to not allow women commuters to carry pepper spray. Chief Public Relations Officer, BMRCL BL Yeshwanth Chavan said that the security department went through the issue and decided to give the nod.

Pepper spray is prohibited from being carried to many public transports as it is inflammable and catches fire easily.
