World’s Oldest Captive White Rhino Dies Aged 55

The world’s oldest captive white rhino, South African-born Sana, has died aged 55. The rhino was a resident of the french zoo for 26 years. Sana was born in 1964 in the Umfolozi National Park on South Africa’s eastern KwaZulu-Natal province. The rhino had called several parks home before finally being shifted at Planete Sauvage, a zoological park.

Sana was no longer able to roll in the mud, something she had loved to do as it helps rhinos regulate their body temperature. Her death has “deeply affected” her caretakers, the zoo added.
