WTC Final 2021: Who Will Hold The WTC Trophy If Historic Final Ends As a Draw?

In the five days match of the World Test Championship final, two full days have been lost due to rain in Southampton. The historic final heads towards a draw despite the availability of a reserve day.

On Monday, the complete Day 4 play have abandoned after persistent rain in Southampton. Fans as well as players were made to wait for the action to resume but it never happened due to wet outfield. 

Only 141.1 overs of play has been possible over 4 days at the Ageas Bowl. World No. 1 New Zealand are on the top, having made 101 for 2 after bowling out India for 217 on Day 3.

The ICC said, “In the event of time being lost during the match, the ICC Match Referee will regularly update the teams and media about the way in which the Reserve Day may be used. The final decision on whether the Reserve Day needs to be used will be announced at the scheduled start of the last hour on the fifth day.”

The International Cricket Council also confirmed that New Zealand and India will be declared joint-winners of the WTC Final if it ends as a draw or a tie.

The winners of the WTC final will get USD 1.6 million whereas the runners-up will get USD 800,000. If the test gets draw, the prize money for the first and second-placed team will be shared equally by the two finalists.

“The two finalists share possession of the Mace during the time they remain champions,” the ICC had said while elaborating the rules in the lead up to the much-anticipated final. India qualified for the WTC final after topping the World Test Championship table by winning 12 matches in 6 series while New Zealand made it with 7 wins in 5 series.
