PM Modi Congratulates ‘Young’ Team India After It Beat Australia To Capture Fortress Gabba

India on Tuesday beat Australia by three wickets to win the test series 2-1 and retain the Border Gavaskar Trophy for the 3rd time in succession. Team India on the final day of the fourth test pulled off a nail bitter with the likes of Shubman Gill (91), Cheteshwar Pujara (56), Rishab Pant (89) and Washington Sundar (22).

The play on the 5th day resumed with India at 4/0. In the chase to score 328 runs, India lost Rohit Sharma early. However, Shubman Gill stitched a strong partnership with Pujara, bringing the visitors back into the game. After Gill and Pujara were dismissed (not before the latter took some serious blows on his body) Rishab Pant stepped forward to settle India and capture the Fortress Gabba.

The victory comes amidst the former opening batsman for Australia Mark Waugh’s prediction that India will lose the test series 4-0 to Australia. And interestingly, this prediction came when India had the luxury of players like Shami, Bumrah, Umesh Yadav, Jadeja and more, who were all injured before the start of the fourth test match.

The win is historic for India and its bowlers as they had little to no experience of the Test game with multiple bowlers, including Mohammed Siraj, debuting for India.

The bowling stats for the fourth test was that the Australian 4 bowlers had more than 1000 Test wickets to their name while India’s 5 bowlers had just 11 wickets to their name.
