Star Argentina footballer Lionel Messi got another feather in his cap as he received the record 6th Ballon d’Or on Monday night. In a ceremony that was held at Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris Messi surpassed his nearest rival Portugal and Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo who has won the award 5 times.
Though Messi was the talk of the town his younger son Mateo stole the show with his reactions as his father received the award. Mateo’s adorable reactions went viral on the social media.
Mateo was seen dancing up and down on his seat with excitement and joy on his face as his father’s name was announced for one of the most prestigious honor of the sport. Mateo is seen tugging a kid sitting next to him in the excitement.

Messi won his 1st Ballon d’Or a decade back when the star footballer was 22 years old. Receiving the award from last year’s winner Croatian captain Luka Modric Messi said, ” It is 10 years since I won my first Ballon d’Or here in Paris and I remember coming here with my three brothers, I was 22 and it was all unthinkable for me what I was going through”.
The Argentine star spoke out his heart and said that he hopes that there are several years left for him to keep enjoying the sport and is well aware of his age and knows that the time to retire is getting closer.
Messi beat Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk and Cristiano Ronaldo to grab his 6th Ballon d’Or. Luka Modric who handed the award to Messi tweeted, “Sports and football are not just about winning, they’re also about respect for your teammates and rivals”.
Luka played a key role in his team’s run-up to the finals of the FIFA WC 2018 where they went down to the champions France. For his stunning performance, the Croatian won his 1st Ballon d’Or last year.
