After Building ‘8th Wonder Of The World’, Saudi Arabia Will Now Make City With No Cars, No Roads

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has unveiled his plan to erect a futurist city with no cars, no roads and no carbon emission. The city that he talked about recently, will span across 170-km and has been named ‘The Line’. The construction of the same will start in the first quarter of 2021.

While revealing the plan to build the city, the Crown Prince said that it will be a “blueprint for how people and planet can co-exist in harmony.” The Line project will have a green city erected in a line stretching 170-km.

It is being reported that ‘The Line’ will function without cars, roads or traffic and will be built up of 170km of hyper-connected communities. A report adds that the city will ensure Ultra-high-speed transit and autonomous mobility solutions to ensure no journey exceeds more than 20 minutes.

The Line project is part of the Prince’s futuristic project called ‘Neow‘ aimed at diversifying the economy. Saudi, which is the largest exporter of crude oil to the world and India, aims to plunge the carbon emission to abide by the Paris Climate Agreement.

However, the project, ever since its release in 2017, has been in controversy and analysts argue if it is even realistic and if can attract the investment needed?

“The backbone of investment in The Line will come from the $500 billion support to Neom by the Saudi government, PIF and local and global investors over 10 years,” the prince told reporters in Al-Ula, referring to Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.

However, Saudi is no alien to such futuristic and unprecedented projects if you consider the experience it has building the artificial island city, The Palm.
