A tragic incident happened near the holy cave of Amarnath in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday. With a major cloudburst, fifteen people are dead and over 40 are missing, as per the officials. Yatra is suspended till further notice. The casualty numbers may, unfortunately, rise with currently being executed rescue operations.

Cloudburst reportedly happened near Amarnath around 5:30, and the nearby tents along with community kitchens were swept away.
Security forces and disaster management teams came into action as soon as possible and a rescue operation was launched but due to the rough terrain they are facing difficulties and trouble will be more at night.
Lt Governor, Jammu, and Kashmir, Major Sinha asserted they have discussed the scenario with the Prime Minister and Home Minister and they have assured of all possible help.
Army helicopters are being used to shift the injured ones to the hospital.
Indo-Tibetan Border Police ITBP said, “Situation is under control, rains are still going on. Looking at the hazard level, the Amarnath Yatra has been halted temporarily due to the area being inundated. If the weather remains normal and makeshift arrangements are made, then the yatra can be resumed tomorrow.”
As said by an ITBP official, a heavy water stream flowed from above and the sides of the cave after extreme rainfall in the upper zones.
Airlifting is currently the most reliable method to transport the injured ones to the hospital for treatment.
Just to inform our readers, a cloudburst happens when heavy rainfall takes place in a very short time over a particular limited region.

Amarnath Yatra was already suspended this week due to bad weather conditions.
Yatra commenced on June 30 this year after being not organized for 2 years due to Covid.
