Coronavirus Would Be With Us For ‘Long’: WHO

With over 26 lakh people affected globally and close to 1.8 lakh deaths coronavirus is here to stay. No, I am not the one who is saying this. It’s what the World Health Organization (WHO) chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has to say.

Make no mistake: we have a long way to go. This virus will be with us for a long time“, said Tedros on Wednesday. “Most countries are still in the early stages of their epidemics. And some that were affected early in the pandemic are now starting to see a resurgence in cases”, he added.

The comment of the WHO chief comes at a time when the US Centers for Disease Control possible second wave in the country of COVID-19. A similar wave of COVID-19 is projected in nations where situations are somewhat in control. WHO and other health experts have warned that strict containment measures like lockdowns should remain until there is a viable treatment or vaccine for the coronavirus.

The team of researchers at Oxford has given assurance that the vaccine would be out by September this year. The human trial for the vaccine is to begin today. Meanwhile, Germany also announced Wednesday that human trials for a vaccine will start by next week. Globally the virus has affected over 26 lakh people.
