Unlike Jupiter, which has 79 moons, or Mars, which has two of them, Earth has been known to have one moon for years. But happens to be, Earth has found a temporary second moon.
Kacper Wierzchos and Theodore Pruyne, researcher specialists for the Catalina Sky Survey have located an asteroid known as 2020 CD3 that currently revolves around the Earth and is bright just like the moon.
It’s only the second asteroid to revolve around the Earth, which had been pulled by the Earth’s gravitational force three years ago. Its presence in Earth’s vicinity was confirmed by six observatories around the world after its discovery on Feburary 19. The same is now be considered aa a mini-moon to Earth.
“Earth has a new temporarily captured object/Possible mini-moon called 2020 CD3. On the night of Feb. 15, my Catalina Sky Survey teammate Teddy Pruyne and I found a 20th magnitude object,” wrote astronomer Kacper Wierzchos on Twitter.
The astronomers added that the orbit of the mini-moon isn’t stable and is bound to diminish sometime in the future. So enjoy it as it lasts. though you can’t it’s very difficult to locate. So just saying.
