Election Law Amendment Bill, 2021: Update

Kiren Rijiju, Union Law Minister will introduce Election Law Amendment Bill, 2021 in Lok Sabha today. The Bill will allow the users to link their Aadhar Card with their Voter ID Card. It will not be mandatory for citizens to link their Aadhar card to their Voter ID.

The problem of multiple enrollments is intended to be solved by the amendment bill.

The amendment will also replace the word ‘wife’ to ‘spouse’ in cases of service voters. Indian Army personnel can only register his wife as a service voter. Spouse of a female Indian Army personnel cannot register as service voter.

Election Law Amendment Bill will allow those exercising their franchise for first time to get as many as four chances to register them in a year as a voter. Presently, only those who have turned 18 by January 1 can register themselves as voters only once.

Kiren Rijiju will also introduce Mediation Bill in Rajya Sabha in winter session. The Bill will promote Institutional Mediation for resolving disputes. Community mediation and Online mediation will get encouragement by the Bill.
