France to Soon Adapt Indian UPI Payment System, Says PM Modi

India and France have reached an agreement to implement the Unified Payments Interface or UPI payment system, starting at the renowned Eiffel Tower. This significant development was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday. Under this agreement, Indian tourists visiting France will have the convenience of making payments in Indian Rupees.

“Be it India’s UPI or other digital platforms, they have brought a huge social transformation in the country and I am happy that India and France are also working together in direction,” said PM Modi at La Seine Musicale in Paris.

“India and France have agreed to use UPI in France. I will leave after the agreement. However, it is your job to move forward. Friends, in the coming days its beginning will be made from Eiffel Tower which means that Indian tourists will now be able to make payments in Rupees, through UPI, at Eiffel Tower,” further said as quoted by ANI.

The declaration is regarded as a momentous advancement for the mutual trade and tourism between India and France. Prime Minister Modi further emphasized that both nations have been engaged in collaborative archaeological endeavors for an extended period.

“Very few people know that India and France are working on archaeological missions for a long time. It’s expanded from Chandigarh to Ladakh. Digital infrastructure is another sector that strengthens the ties between India and France,” said PM Mode.

“India and France are tackling many challenges of the 21st century. Therefore, at this crucial time, the importance of the strategic partnership between our countries has increased even more,” he further added.

The Prime Minister, who embarked on a formal two-day visit to Paris on Thursday, received a ceremonial reception upon his arrival at the airport. French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne extended a warm welcome to him.

India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) serves as a mobile-centric payment system, enabling individuals to conduct 24/7 transactions using a customer-generated virtual payment address.
