Currently, there is no official information regarding whether your PAN Card has become inoperative or not from the Government, after missing the deadline, June 30, to link PAN and Aadhar. But the deadline has also not been extended. As per the law, from July 1, 2023, your PAN Card was to become inoperative after missing the deadline.
Missed PAN Card and Aadhaar Linking date?
“Under the provisions of the Income Tax Act, 1961, every person who has been allotted a PAN as of 1st July 2017 and is eligible to obtain an Aadhaar Number, is required to intimate his Aadhaar to the prescribed authority. Failure to do so shall attract certain repercussions under the Act,” mentioned by News18.
“The Finance Act, 2021 inserted a new section 234H in the Act to complete the process of PAN-Aadhaar linking for identifying bogus PANs. This section provides that where a person who is required to intimate his Aadhaar under subsection (2) of section 139 AA fails to do so on or before a notified date, they shall be liable to pay a fee not exceeding the sum of one thousand rupees, as may be prescribed, at the time of making intimation under sub-section (2) of section 139AA after the said date,” further said.
How to Activate an Inoperative PAN Card?
As allowed by the IT Department, a person can still link their PAN and Aadhaar after June 30, 2023, after paying a penalty.
So, if even the PAN Card has become inoperative you can still activate it through a simple process. “ CBDT circular in March this year has said the PAN can be made operative again in 30 days, upon intimation of Aadhaar to the prescribed authority after payment of a fee of Rs 1,000. For example, if you raise a request to link your PAN with Aadhaar on July 10, your PAN will start functioning on or before August 9 onwards.”
