IRCTC always looks forward to the convenience of its passengers. The system continuously tries hard to provide many new services to the travellers. Now the railways has shown us how to confirm lower berth tickets while booking.

IRCTC Concern About Senior Citizens

Senior citizens are most needful when it comes to lower berth allocation while travelling in trains. But due to the system problems, senior citizens are allocated middle and upper birth even after mentioning their preferences. This makes their travel experience worse, and they face lots of inconvenience.

And as the IRCTC is concerned about senior citizens, it has told us the way to book confirmed tickets to get lower berths.

A Twitter user being a passenger asked IRCTC a question about the seat allocation system for senior citizens. He asked while tagging “Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav”, about the logica run behind to allocate the seats to senior citizens.

Tweet goes as “@IRCTCofficial what logic do you run for seat allocation, I had booked tickets for 3 senior citizens with preference of lower berth , there are 102 berths available, yet allocated berths are middle, upper and side lower. U need to correct same.@AshwiniVaishnaw”.

The reply of his question came by Railway Seva’s official twitter handle

Sir, Lower berth/Sr. Citizen quota berths are lower berths earmarked only for male age of 60 years and above/female age of 45 years and above, when traveling alone or two passengers ( under mentioned criteria traveling on one ticket. ½

Concessional Tickets Were Suspended

IRCTC has suspended concession tickets last year for different categories, including senior citizens. This decision was taken for the reason of the coronavirus pandemic. It was a necessary step to discourage the unnecessary travelling in Corona times.
