‘Kamalnath’ Government In M.P. Hung On A ‘Thin Thread’, As Date Of Floor Test Likely To Be Out Today

The ‘Holi political drama’ in Madhya Pradesh left everyone by shock. Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia switched alliances to BJP creating tremors in the years-old party. The government in Madhya Pradesh (MP) since then is ‘hung’ on a thin thread.

The Congress has lost the majority in the M.P. state assembly courtesy of Scindia’s 22 loyal MLA’s who resigned. The 22 MLAs have been kept captive by the BJP. In numbers, the Congress party now has 92 seats. The BJP, on the other hand, has 107 seats in 228 seat assembly. The number shows that BJP is to sail the test.

However, the suspense is over the conduct of the ‘floor test’. As per the constitution and rule of convention, the date and time of the floor test are to be determined by the ‘speaker’. Which in this case is Congress party’s N. P. Prajapati. While the governor has called for the ‘trust vote’ it’s all about when it would be conducted.

As speculated Monday would not be that day. The assembly’s schedule for Monday has not got the ‘trust vote’ listed. The speaker, on the other hand, has refused to reveal anything creating more suspense. The M.P Chief Minister Kamal Nath met the governor and submitted a letter to him accusing the BJP of being involved in horse-trading.
