KFC, Pizza Hut Apologizes Over Post On Kashmir Issue

A Pakistan based KFC franchise supported Kashmir Separatists on social media recently and company has apologised for such a comment coming from its franchise.

Pizza Hut’s Official Social Handle in Pakistan also posted on Kashmir issue through Instagram. The company also issued a statement later saying, ‘it does not condone, support or agree with the contents of a post circulating in social media,’ after it faced lots of backlash from users.

Both KFC and Pizza Hut are owned by a US Based company YUM. The company is also owner of popular fast food chain Taco Bell.

KFC India through its official Twitter handle said, “We deeply apologize for a post that was published on some KFC social media channels outside the country. We honour and respect India, and remain steadfast in our commitment to serving all Indians with pride.”

Pizza Hut gave the statement which said, “It does not condone, support or agree with the contents of a post circulating in social media. We remain steadfast in our commitment to serve all our brothers and sisters with pride.”

The Pakistan’s social media handle of KFC posted that “Kashmir belong to Kashmiris” which directly supported the Kashmir Separatists. It hurt the sentiments of Indian population.

The Pakistan’s social media handle of Pizza Hut posted that “We stand with you. Kashmir Solidarity Day.”

After both the posts #BoycottKFC and #BoycottPizzaHut started trending on Twitter After which both posts were deleted immediately by the company.

A similar incident happened in Pakistan from Twitter account of Hyundai dealer from handle @hyundaiPakistanOfficial where message supporting Kashmir Separatists was posted and it called it ‘struggle for freedom’. After which #BoycottHyundai started trending on Twitter where people were asking each other not to buy cars of the company.

In response to which Hyundai Motors India apologised and said that it is committed to Indian market.

KFC currently has over 450 outlets in India and is run under partnership with Devyani International and Sapphire Foods. Pizza Hut has over 500 outlets in the country.
