World Health Organization (WHO) has been under the hammer during this time of the pandemic. It is accused of supporting China who has taken it long to reveal the ‘Coronavirus’ threat to the world. The U.S. President Donald Trump has openly criticized WHO. Now, Trump has taken a big decision.
The largest contribution to WHO’s budget the U.S. has decided to stop its funding. Trump said he is going to halt funding to the World Health Organization (WHO) because it has “failed in its basic duty”. The U.S President has accused the UN agency of mismanaging and covering up the spread of the virus.
“I am directing my administration to halt funding while a review is conducted to assess the World Health Organization’s role in severely mismanaging and covering up the spread of the coronavirus“, said Trump on Tuesday. The UN chief António Guterres slammed Trump’s decision. He said it was “not the time” to cut funds to the WHO.
“Not the time to reduce the resources for the operations of the World Health Organization or any other humanitarian organization in the fight against the virus“, said the UN Chief. Meanwhile, Trump has been under fire for his own handling of the pandemic. The U.S is closing in on 6 lakh cases with around 30,000 deaths due to COVID-19.
