In a bizarre announcement, the trader’s body in Uttar Pradesh on Monday announced that all the shopping malls in the states can open but the shops inside the same will remain closed. Yes, you heard that right.
As per a report by news agency ANI, the traders’ body in UP has decided to allow the opening of malls with the aforementioned condition in an Adrash Vyapar Mandal meeting held in Lucknow to discuss rules for reopening of businesses post lockdown.
The Mandal has also demanded a reduction in rent to help the shopkeepers in tough times. “Exclude the rent and common area maintenance fee during the lockdown,” Sanjay Gupta, President of the Mandal, told ANI.
However, when the malls’ owners denied the reduction, the trader’s body decided to shut shops as a sign of protest and seek a subsidy on rent and maintenance for the upcoming twelve months.
