Stamping its prior promise and obviously the marketing strategy, Netflix is all set to allow Indians free access to its content for straight two days in December. In a nutshell, Indians can watch movies and web series on Netflix without having to pay even a single penny.
The Streamfest, as Netflix calls it, will go live in India on December 5 and yes, as you may have guessed, it’s Saturday, thus you have your weekend sorted. To get free access, a user simply needs to make a Netlfix ID and don’t need any sort of card details.
Talking about announcing testing the Streamfest in India, Netflix COO Greg Peters had said during a conference call, “An idea we’re excited about — and we’ll see how it goes, we think that giving everyone in a country access to Netflix for free for a weekend could be a great way to expose a bunch of new people to the amazing stories that we have. Really creating an event, and hopefully, get a bunch of those folks to sign up.”
Anyone who avails the offer will be able to stream content across devices including the app on their smart TV, gaming console, iOS, and Android apps and on the PC.
Earlier Netflix had decided to call off the free 30-day free trial in India that it used to offer in the initial stages of its launch in India.
Netflix, to attract more users in India, had introduced a low-cost mobile streaming plan at Rs 199. Besides, Netflix is also mulling numerous offers that, it believes, could increase its subscriber base. Netflix was one of the many gainer firms during the lockdown period as people sought online content to kill time.
“We have been working really hard to try and make our offering in India more competitive, more attractive to members and members-to-be, and there’s a bunch of different product features we’ve been doing, partnerships and payments integrations,” Netflix COO Peters had told analysts about its plans in India.
