As per a report by the Indian Express, the Railways has notified that passengers will not be allowed to charge utilities like their phone or laptops during the night time between 11 PM to 5 AM on trains. This is being done to check the recent spate of fire incidents in trains.

Also, the railways notified that such instructions are not new.

In 2014, in light of a Commissioner of Railway Safety recommendation, Railway Board had asked all zones to switch off charging points between 11 pm and 5 am. This came after a fire incident in the Bangalore-Hazur Sahib Nanded Express.
