Heard that precautionary line that goes before every movie “ye is sehar ko hua kya kya? Kahi rakh hai kahi dhua dhua.” You must have I’m Sure. Well we need to edit it a bit and ones done, it would end up something like this:
Ye Bollywood ko hua kya? Kahi plagraism hai kahi racist songs ba.
Yes, that is what the latest song from the Bollywood movie Khali Peeli is. Racist. And after listening to the song, the Indian audience came out in huge numbers to apologise to Beyonce and shamed Bollywood for its obsession with fair skin and song on the same lines.
The chorus of the song goes like this, “Oh tujhe dekh ke goriya… Beyonce sharma jayegi,” which people possibly think means – After looking at you fair woman, Beyonce will feel shy.
The makers, Vishal-Shekhar, might not have thought it that way but the lyrics obviously didn’t sit well among the Indian audience. And the fact that it comes at a time when Black Lives Matter protests are raging across the world fuels the disapproval.
