Prime Minister Narendra Modi would address the nation tonight at 8 PM. The information was provided through an official tweet by the PMO.
This would be the 5th address of the PM Modi since the 1st one on 19th March where he called for Janta Curfew. The address would come a day after Prime Minister held a marathon meeting with CMs of the state regarding the prevailing situations and lockdown. In yesterday’s meet, CMs of 4 to 5 states called for an extension of lockdown.
PM Modi meanwhile gave the states time till 15th May to submit their views. Since the cases are on a rise complete removal of lockdown is not a possibility for sure. PM’s address tonight is expected to be focused on steps beyond 17th May. The CMs of the state yesterday asked for a revival of economic activities in the green zone areas.
As the Kerala CM asked for autonomy for the state to decide the extension of lockdown this can be a possibility. As the situation of different states is different amidst the pandemic some can afford relaxations while others can’t. Moreover, the number of green zones in the country came down to 179 as compared to 319 on 1st May.
The irony with is India is that unlike other countries cases are rising in spite of a 40 day plus lockdown. However, the only positive here is the death rate which is under control. Now, all eyes would be on PM Modi who is known to make major announcements at 8:00 PM.
