Spotify Has No Plans For Rolling Spotify HiFi Feature

Last year Spotify told that it will roll out Spotify HiFi feature by the end of 2021 but there is still no sign of it. The two biggest rivals Amazon Music and Apple Music already have launched this feature for their audience.

Spotify is a Swedish Audio Streaming service provider that was launched in 2006 by Martin Lorentzon and Daniel Ek. It has over 406 million monthly users across the world. Out of which 180 million people are paying subscribers of the streaming service.

The HiFi feature was to offer CD quality streaming and lossless audio. Daniel Ek has hinted that the feature will not come soon and it has been delayed indefinitely.

Daniel Ek revealed this information at Investors and Analysts Meeting for fourth quarter of 2021. He also explained that many features that were planned are getting delayed because of licensing negotiations with different partners.

His statement was, “Many of the features that we talk about and especially that’s related to music ends up into licensing. So I can’t really announce any specific on this other than to say that we are in constant dialogue with our partners to bring this to market.”

Apple Music rolled Lossless Audio feature last year and Spotify HiFi feature was to be similar to it. The feature would allow music lovers to listen to high quality music without paying extra money for it.

Spotify has managed to grab a large number of fan following and has become largest music streaming service across the globe. The second quarter results of 2021 have showed that Spotify continues to be the largest music service provider. In this quarter Spotify gained 523.9 million paid subscribers across the world.

Sometime back Spotify found itself in one of the biggest controversy that it has ever faced. Artists like Joni Mitchell, Neil Young and Nils Lofgren pulled down their albums from the streaming platform. It was because Spotify aired a podcast by Joe Rogan that was spreading wrong information about Covid vaccine. The podcast said that young healthy people do not need vaccine for Covid-19. Hashtags like #DeleteSpotify were flying on twitter and other social media platforms. The controversy served a loss of more than 4 billion dollars to the company.
