After RBI regulations disrupted the recurring payment system on Google Play, UPI grabbed the opportunity. Google Play services are now offering a new payment option for recurring subscriptions, which is UPI Autopay. In India, now UPI Autopay will serve as the new recurring payment system for all the monthly subscription-based services. It’s convenient, fast and easy to use.
Google Play Adopts UPI Autopay As Recurring Payment Option
“Google Play has been committed to giving users safe and convenient ways to pay for their favourite apps and games – while helping developers of all sizes transact with millions of users globally and build successful businesses on the platform”, said Saurabh Agarwal, Head of Google Play Retail & Payments Activation for India, Vietnam, Australia and New Zealand.
“We are always looking at adding popular and effective forms of payment around the world to ensure people can pay for apps and in-app content conveniently,” Agrawal stated and added that UPI Autopay will help more people access helpful and delightful services “while enabling local developers to grow their subscription-based businesses on Google Play”, further said.
The UPI Autopay system was introduced by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) under UPI 2.0 and allows users to make recurring payments in auto mode using any UPI application.

As per Goole’s statement, “ users can tap on the payment method in the cart after selecting a subscription plan for purchase. In the payment method, they need to choose the ‘Pay with UPI’ option and approve the purchase.”
Presently, Google Play enables customers to make safe and secure payments in more than 170 markets. “The platform has also been focused on removing complexities associated with finding and integrating local payments, including access to over 300 local payment methods supported in more than 60 countries, mentioned Times now.
