With Over 50,000 Cases In A Week India Surpasses France And Germany To Stand 7th In Terms Of COVID-19 Cases, Racing Towards Top 5

India is climbing the charts on the unfortunate list of countries of most cases of COVID-19. After entering the top 10 last week it jumped to the 7th spot on Sunday. India has now passed the tally of France and Germany standing just below Italy. India at present has over 1.9 lakh cases and is closing in on 2 lakh cases. It has been setting new daily records of cases in the past few days.

8,392 cases in the last 24 hours the biggest single-day jump so far. Within a week of it getting the 10th rank, India has witnessed around 50,000 cases to push it up to 7th spot globally. At this pace, India would surpass Italy in another 7 days’ time. While the times are testing for India even after a 9 weeks lockdown there is unlocking of things that the government is going with.

With cases going to spike in June and July India looks to be nearing its peak. PM Modi however assured the nation in yesterday’s ‘Mann ki Baat’ that considering India’s population it’s the situation is not that worse. The number of deaths have also crossed the 5,400 mark in India. While states now have more autonomy to take calls on lockdown those like Maharashtra (the worst hit) are going by extension and limited relaxations.
