In his 7 point support appeal the PM mentioned Aarogya Setu. Pokémon GO took 19 days to reach the milestone. After PM’s address downloads of the app surged from 39 million to a peak of 100,000 per minute on Tuesday. Interestingly 99% of downloads were on Android mobiles.
The app was launched on April 2 to alert users who are at risk of exposure to COVID-19 infection. The launch came after the launch of Corona Kavach App which is also a location-based app to help people get the right information about the virus. Recently Google and Apple have also collaborated to launch a similar contact-tracing initiative.
