HUL Renames Fair & Lovely To ‘Glow And Lovely’ And Twitter Asks Ye Kya Mazak Hai?

As talks against racism continue to echo across the world after the racist killing of George Floyd in the USA, many brands in India have been roped in for their racial products and names of those.

Among these, the ones to face serious backslash are Hindustan Unilever’s fairness creams” Fair & Lovely and Fair and Handsome. As people filed petitions against their names recently, HUL decided to change their names citing its policy of respecting every human and so their skin colour.

Keep its promise, HUL has changed the name of its popular creams to ‘Glow & Lovely’ and ‘Glow and Handsome’ from Fair & Lovely and Fair and Handsome.

However, the naam karann didn’t satisfy the netizens as it sounds simply replacing the word Fair with its synonym. And even if HUL quotes it as something “Ggow from the inside,” people are not poetic enough to think from that angle.

Thus many joined in to criticise HUL’s and its everlasting obsession with fair skin and racism.

Seriously, this was one chance when HUL could have done something praiseworthy. But of course, business is more important not how a human feels about himself.
