PM Narendra Modi, amidst ongoing farmers’ protest, on Friday announced that the farmers waiting for the disbursal of amount under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) Scheme would get it on December 25.
PM Modi, while addressing the Kisan Kalyan event, also said that he will discuss issues related to farmers on the birth anniversary of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee i.e. 25 December.
What is Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Scheme?
For the unaware, the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) Scheme is a direct benefit transfer scheme for millions of farmers in the country. Under the scheme, landholder farmer families with cultivable land receive Rs 6000 every year in four installments in their bank accounts. However, there are some exclusions too.
Who are to get the benefits?
Earlier, launched only for small and marginal farmers with 2 hectares of land, the scheme was revised in 2019 to include all farmers irrespective of the size of the land they hold. The scheme now benefits more than 14.5 crore farmers in the country.
Who is excluded from the PM-KISAN Scheme?
The scheme is not for farmer families who hold constitutional posts, are serving or retired officers and employees of State or Central government as well as Public Sector Undertakings and Government Autonomous bodies.
People in professions like doctoring, lawyering, engineering are also barred from being a beneficiary. Moreover, people with a monthly pension of Rs 10,000 or more and those who paid income tax in the last assessment year are too not eligible.
