The World Cup 2011 win for India will forever be etched in every Indians heart for the magnificent tournament it was. Like not even in my dreams I will be able to see the likes of Yuvraj Singh, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, and more playing in the same team ever again.

And when renowned players like these are in a team, the formation of un-erasable memories is obvious. So as India celebrates the day when it lifted the World Cup 2011, herein we go down the memory lane to scoop out the best 6 moments from the 2011 World Cup. Have a look.

1. Dhoni-Gambhir Partnership

On 2nd April 2011, India became the second team to win the World Cup playing second. And thanks to the magnificent partnership between Gambhir and Dhoni, which came after India lost early wickets in quick sessions. The duo added 109 runs together after Dhoni promoted himself ahead of in-form Yuvraj Singh.

After Gambhir was bowled out at 97, Yuvraj Singh walked out to finish the game. That partnership would always be remembered as a match-winning partnership.

2. Yuvi And Raina Quarter Final Partnership

Like semi-finals, quarter-finals have been nervous for India, and so was 2011’s quarter-final against Australia. India still needed 73 off 76 when the big wicket of Dhoni fell at just 7 runs. With hardly any batting remaining, in walked Suresh Raina to join Yuvraj Singh. The duo played sensibly not allowing Australians any more wickets.

The stadium in Punjab felt silent when Umar Akmal, in the semi-final, came in to bat at no. 5 and was smashing the Indian bowlers to all corners of the ground. The tension was filing up when Dhoni called in Harbhajan Singh to deliver. Singh didn’t disappoint as he not only showed Akmal the way to the pavilion but also dismissed Shahid Afridi.

Despite putting a sore of 337 in the group stage against England, team India was having a tough time slowing down the England batsmen. England was comfortably placed at 280 for 2 and it was when Zaheer was called in. The man took 2 wickets in two consecutive balls to put India back into the game.

Again in the final, he didn’t even concede even a single run in the first three overs of the game. He also picked the important wicket of Upul Tharanga in his 4th over.

5. Virender Sehwag’s 100 Against Bangladesh

Virender Sehwag opened India’s campaign in style in 2011 smashing 175 to help India register a mammoth 370 for 4 in their first innings. It is one of the most remembered innings as it is said to be India’s reply to Bangladesh, who had defeated them embarrassingly in their previous World cup face-off, in 2007.
